So for any given LaCie product, there is a dead identical NEC product. They've never been the least bit secretive about this either. Their software is the primary difference, though it is more or less functionally equivalent to NEC's Spectraview software.Īt any rate, ever since I've kept track, all the way back to their CRT monitors, LaCie products have just been rebadged NEC. They have their own cobranded colourimetre, though it is again just an i1 Display 2. If your question is do the LaCie models have hardware calibration turned on the answer is yes, they are functionally identical to the US 2690 models. You can also buy a display without it, and later buy the kit. In the US, if your order a Spectraview model, they just put a Spectraview kit in the box. There is no actual difference in display hardware. You should be aware that the MultiSync/Spectraview difference is just a marketing thing in Europe. All their display products are NEC monitors. It isn't even altered, other than slight appearance changes. Both LaCie and NEC will tell you as much if you ask. Instead of buying a cheap device(colorimeter)like i1 display pro, rent a better one(spectrometer) like i1 studio. It is just a rebranded NEC. After a few years, your screen will naturally deteriorate, but the correction file won't, so the colorimeter won't be that accurate for an old screen. The problem is if your monitor is a Wide gamut monitor, Colorimeter needs a specific correction file for calibration. So technically everything on the list is sufficient enough for a 100%Srgb monitor calibration. If you're using PC, then it's better than vendor software plus it helps you manage your color profile system wide. The ColorMunki Create and ColorMunki Smile colorimeters are similar hardware as the i1 Display 2 (with the ColorMunki Smile no longer having a built-in correction for CRT but for white LED backlit LCD instead). Apart from that, the instrument appears to be virtually identical. It comes bundled with a simpler vendor software and has longer measurement times compared to the i1 Display Pro. The ColorMunki Display colorimeter is a less expensive version of the i1 Display Pro colorimeter. There are no differences between the instruments when used with ArgyllCMS and Displa圜AL. The ColorMunki Design and ColorMunki Photo spectrometers differ only in the functionality of the bundled vendor software. Note that the i1 Display Pro and i1 Pro are very different instruments despite their naming similarities.Īlso there are currently () five instruments (or rather, packages) under the ColorMunki brand, two of which are spectrometers, and three are colorimeters (not all of them being recent offerings, but you should be able to find them used in case they are no longer sold new): If you've decided to buy a color instrument because ArgyllCMS supports it, please let the dealer and manufacturer know that “You bought it because ArgyllCMS supports it”-thanks.
